Hurstpierpoint Gymnastics Club caters for girls and boys between the ages of three and sixteen. It is open to children from any school and at present draws from over thirty schools from Brighton to Haywards Heath and from Lewes to Burgess Hill. The club has qualified coaches.
All groups meet in Hurstpierpoint Village Centre. Pre-school classes are half an hour, school age classes are an hour.
We accept new children every term, but now have a waiting list for all groups - including those coming to pre-school age. An application form is included in this web-site. Current classes are :-
- Girls aged 3 & 4 - Fridays 2pm or 2.30pm
- Girls of school age 4 to 7 - Wednesdays 4pm or Thursdays 4 & 5pm
- Girls aged 7 to 10 - Wednesdays 5pm or Thursdays 6pm
- Girls aged 10 to 16 - Wednesdays 6pm or Thursdays 7pm
Boys aged 3 & 4 - Friday 1pm or 1.30pm
Boys of school age 4 - 7 - Tuesday 4.30pm
Boys aged 8 - 11 - Tuesday 5.30pm
The club works on the British Gymnastics award scheme (revised 2007) - from Award 8 up to Award 1, followed by the Proficiency Scheme - Bronze, Silver & Gold. The Club has adopted three of the disciplines - Floor, Vault and Pairs. The club has to pay its way and fees are charged each term or remaining part of in advance. All awards are presented free at the end of each term.
We currently organise two competitions each year. The first is an Arts competition in the spring for girls involving rhythmic equipment, the beam and Sports Acrobatics. The second is our Annual Championships in July, for boys and girls involving floor, vault and Sports Acrobatic pairs. Entry into both of these competitions and for spectators is free.
Club leotards are available for purchase from the club, but they are not essential. Any coloured leotard will suffice or even tee-shirt and shorts. Club tee-shirts are also available - just £2 each. Please ensure that your child has suitable warm clothing to wear, if necessary during the lesson and particularly afterwards. Children should arrive ready changed as the club is unable to provide changing facilities.
We operate a 'one club' rule; we will not accept or keep children who also attend other gym clubs or classes - other than school clubs. Children may transfer to us or from us as they wish.
Spectating is discouraged as this tends to inhibit the children - though if you wish to observe a session please ask. No jewellery should be worn and long hair should always be tied back. All work is done barefoot, medical advice is that verrucae are not infectious on smooth dry surfaces.
